Cesare Tiberio Farris and his son Stefano, aged 59 and 29, were sentenced to 15 and 14 years in prison, accused of the beating murder of the 63-year-old farmer, Massimo Deidda . Today, at the end of the abbreviated trial, the Court Judge Manuela Anzani essentially accepted the requests of the Prosecutor Rossella Spano (she had requested 16 and 14 years) against the two defendants.
They had ended up on trial for having beaten the farmer with sticks, to the point of causing his death, at the end of an argument . Not only. The gun that the two would then have found was not used by Deidda, but in the possession of Cesare Farris: hence the request at 16 years compared to the 14 requested for the son. Cesare Farris and his son Stefano were arrested by the Carabinieri just twelve hours after the 63-year-old's lifeless body was found in the Gergei countryside on 20 June 2022. The motive would be linked to old grudges between neighbours . The father had confessed to taking full responsibility for the murder, claiming that he had acted to protect his son and out of fear of the victim who was holding the gun.
Today both the Public Prosecutor and the defenders Giovanni Aste and Valerio Doa, as well as the civil parties Pierluigi Concas and Herika Dessì, spoke for the replies. At the end the judge retired to the council chamber and in the afternoon she read the sentence finding father and son guilty of the murder.
