Gaia Costa was hit and killed in Porto Cervo. The manager driving the SUV is seeking a plea bargain.

The preliminary investigations judge of the Tempio tribunal will rule on the request for an alternative trial presented by the lawyers of Vivian Spohr, the German manager and wife of the CEO of Lufthansa who on 8 July 2025 hit the 24-year-old from Tempio, Gaia Costa , with her BMW SUV, killing her on a pedestrian crossing in the centre of Porto Cervo .

The hearing scheduled for June 23 will see the judges of the chambers consider the plea bargain request. Last February, the Tempio Prosecutor's Office closed its investigation into the young woman's death, placing Vivian Spohr under investigation for vehicular homicide.

The incident occurred on July 8, shortly before 1:00 PM, at a pedestrian crossing near the intersection with Via della Goletta. According to the report by engineer Marco Antonio Pes, a consultant appointed by Prosecutor Gregorio Capasso and Deputy Prosecutor Milena Aucone, the vehicle's impact with the 24-year-old was attributable to severe distraction on the part of the driver , who failed to notice the young pedestrian while checking the traffic ahead. Weather conditions were excellent, visibility was clear, and the road surface was dry.

The tragedy had shocked the whole of Gallura: Gaia Costa was the daughter of a well-known trade unionist.
