The trial in Cagliari against UDC exponents accused of aggravated embezzlement for the use of funds destined for their political group in the regional council is in the pipeline.

The prosecutor Marco Cocco in his indictment asked for three sentences and an acquittal, against the former parliamentarian Roberto Capelli.

In detail, the prosecution requested three and a half years for Franco Ignazio Sisinnio Cuccu, three years and two months for Antonio Cappai and one year - in continuation with a previous sentence of 4 years and a month which, however, the Supreme Court ordered to restate due to some prescriptions - for Sergio Marracini.

On the other hand, the positions of the party leader in Sardinia, Giorgio Oppi, and of the brothers Alberto and Vittorio Randazzo have already been removed and declared prescribed.

As mentioned, absolution was requested for Capelli, as, the prosecutor explained, "he kept unofficial, but precise and complete accounts that took into account all income and expenses, distinguishing the needs of the UDC party. from those of the group. And that accounting was spontaneously delivered by the defendant himself to our office ".

Furthermore, Capelli “showed us all the expenses, even those that could be dubious or ambivalent, deciding to establish a dispute with the office. And he returned those that appeared dubious ".

In September of last year the charges for the former directors Andrea Biancareddu and Salvatore Amadu were also prescribed. The judges of the first criminal section chaired by Tiziana Maronga have adjourned the trial to November 30 for the sentence.

The maxi-investigation into the funds of the regional council groups had been launched in 2009 and over the years has led to convictions and acquittals for representatives of various parties.
