Pre-trial detention: this is the preliminary investigations judge's decision for a 50-year-old man, resident of Acerra, arrested by the Guardia di Finanza inside the port of Olbia in recent days while attempting to escape the island. According to magistrates from the Tempio, Oristano, and Sassari prosecutors' offices, he is responsible for a series of incidents that occurred in Paulilatino, Thiesi, Arzachena, Bono, and Olbia. The man allegedly robbed and defrauded numerous elderly people while posing as a finance officer.

The investigation began after an incident in Paulilatino, when an elderly woman, contacted by telephone by a self-styled Guardia di Finanza marshal, was robbed of gold jewelry and cash. Thanks to the Carabinieri's prompt intervention and a thorough analysis of video surveillance footage and the boarding list for the Tirrenia ferry between Olbia and Civitavecchia, the man from Campania was stopped before boarding a ferry. At the time of his arrest, the man was wearing the same clothes he had worn during the reported incident in Paulilatino .

Defended by lawyers Carmine Malinconico and Pietro Carzedda, the man exercised his right to remain silent before the investigating judge.
