A violent robbery involving an elderly couple was carried out last night in Fonni. Two armed bandits broke into the home and shot the 74-year-old man in the face . They then fled, taking several rifles from the house. The elderly man suffered a broken nose; he was treated at the San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro and has already been released. The Carabinieri are investigating the incident.

A new crime spree has emerged in the Gennargentu region: on the night of March 25 , Rosanna Valeri's jewelry store in the central Corso Umberto was raided. Using a bobcat from a nearby construction site, the criminals managed to uproot and steal the safe, as well as other jewelry.

The mayor's bitterness

"There are things you don't believe when they tell you. There are things you never want to talk about. And you don't want to talk about them because they should never happen. And yet they do happen. Even in Fonni," is the bitter comment of Mayor Daniela Falconi.

The desperation of the two robbery victims can only be imagined, emphasizes the mayor, who doesn't dwell on "the most insulting comments I can think of to describe those who take advantage of the weakest, leaving them at the mercy of desperation and fear that are difficult to erase."

For days, Falconi adds, "I've been repeating to the journalists who call me that 'Fonni is something else,' and that we are all something else. And that those who commit these crimes can't even be considered our fellow countrymen. We live in one town, we all know each other. I don't know what the reaction will be, but I know that the response must be unanimous, determined, and united."

A debate will be convened in the city council in the coming days, and "scheduled, urgent work will begin to repair the public lighting in that area. In the meantime, if it's true that Easter is the celebration of the passage to light, each of us can make our own reflections."
