The trial against Giovanni Pinna, charged with voluntary manslaughter in the death of his cousin Davide Calvia, who was found dead in April 2023 in the waters of Lu Bagnu in Castelsardo, has been adjourned to the Assize Court in Sassari today. The other charges against the 38-year-old from Sassari, rescued in the waters of Porchile in Sorso three years ago, include shipwreck and theft.

Today, the panel, chaired by Monia Adami, with Valentina Nuvoli as co-chair, and composed of six jurors, scheduled the next hearing for December 1st, during which the expert who will transcribe the wiretaps will also be chosen.

The defendant was present in the courtroom along with his lawyer, Nicolò Vecchioni.

Davide's sister , Nadia, was interviewed at the end of the session and stated, referring specifically to the accused: "My brother wasn't alone that day, and those who were with him persist in not speaking. And they don't because they have something to hide."

According to the autopsy, the victim did not drown but rather died from head and chest injuries . And, according to prosecutor Armando Mammone, the boat, which the two had stolen in Porto Torres while they were fishing, was sunk by Pinna.

The civil parties are represented by attorneys Marco Palmieri and Cinzia Cossu for the Calvia family, while Sara Dettori represents the boat's owner. There are 27 witnesses on the prosecutor's list, as well as the same number from the defense, and five from the civil parties.
