Blood emergency in Sardinia . Donations have dropped dramatically, the need has increased (the island's population is larger thanks to tourists), and on Thursday night the plane that brings blood bags from the mainland once a week didn't take off.

Apparently, there was a technical glitch, but unfortunately no one arranged an alternative flight. The result: blood shortages, thalassemic patients have been unable to receive regular transfusions, and the hospitals are facing serious repercussions.

Yesterday, a memo was issued at Brotzu Hospital from the Immunohematology and Transfusion Center, explaining that, due to the cancellation of the red blood cell transport flight, the situation is a "real emergency" because it is not possible to support operating room operations. Consequently, activities must be limited to emergencies only, both medical and surgical.

The appeal is now also open to donations, at hospital transfusion centers or at an Avis branch. At Brotzu, you can book by calling 070 539347, or by WhatsApp at 388 0797812.
