Fires: Orange alert issued in half of Sardinia.

The regional Civil Protection Department has issued a bulletin signaling the highest level of danger for the entire western part of the island for tomorrow, Wednesday, August 27. An orange alert means that "conditions are such that a fire with high intensity and rapid spread could develop. If not addressed promptly, it could reach such a size that it would be difficult for ordinary forces, even reinforced, to control it, and the assistance of the state fleet could be necessary."

For the remaining area the alarm is yellow.

Civil Protection reminds you of some rules of conduct: avoid lighting fires, burning plant debris, or using equipment that could produce sparks in high-risk areas. Even simple distraction can start fires that are difficult to contain in the presence of wind and high temperatures.

Those expected in the next few hours. The Civil Protection Department has issued a severe weather warning for August 27th and 28th, predicting exceptionally high temperatures across much of the island.

Tomorrow, temperatures will exceed 37 degrees Celsius in the western part of the country, particularly in the northern part. The day after tomorrow, however, the heat will mainly affect the southern and eastern parts, with peaks above 40 degrees Celsius in the Lower Campidano and along the eastern coast. Low temperatures, which will settle around 25 degrees Celsius, will affect coastal and subcoastal areas.

The change in temperatures is driven by high pressure from Africa, favored by the entry of a low pressure system over Spain. Sardinia will therefore experience intense heat, even at high altitude, which suggests muggy or hot days even at sea level.
