The Forestry Corps then executed an order for the application of the precautionary measure of the obligation to remain in residence, issued by the preliminary investigations judge of the Court of Cagliari, against two citizens residing in Nurri , investigated, on various counts, for the hypothesis of the crime of arson.

The contested incident dates back to July 19, 2024. According to what emerged during the investigation, the two, aboard a car, after stopping along a road in the Villamar area, allegedly set fire to the vegetation present in the ditch, starting a fire that was promptly contained and extinguished by firefighting teams. The flames affected an area of approximately 4,000 square meters.

The investigation was then extended to a series of fires that occurred between 2024 and 2025 in the Nurri and Orroli areas. According to the investigation, in addition to the two individuals subject to the precautionary measure, two other individuals, also residents of Nurri, were also implicated . Their positions are currently being examined by the judicial authorities.

During the investigation, numerous house and personal searches were carried out, leading to the seizure of homemade incendiary devices.

Finally, the hearing for the 78-year-old pensioner arrested in mid-June for starting a forest fire in the countryside of Villasor (Cagliari) is scheduled for October 7th . The man's defense, who was caught and arrested by the Regional Forestry Corps' Investigative Unit, has requested a fast-track hearing.

Meanwhile, the judge has ordered the seizure, a prelude to confiscation, of the suspect's car, which the prosecution alleges was used to reach the site of the fire. The pensioner, a resident of Uta and with a criminal record, will await the hearing under house arrest.
