There were moments of great tension yesterday afternoon in Seulo. The fire broke out around 2:00 PM in the upper part of the town, towards Sadali, threatening homes and farms and destroying fields, vineyards, and vegetable gardens. The flames also affected livestock farms, causing livestock losses, and sparking concern among residents.
Also present on the ground was the regional councilor for the Environment, Rosanna Laconi, who followed the operations together with the mayor of Seulo, Enrico Murgia.
"Whoever sets fires is committing a despicable and irresponsible act," Laconi declared. "Some citizens have lost farms and vineyards, the fruit of years of hard work. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of institutions and communities, however, we have avoided far more serious consequences."
The Sardinia Region's Forest Fire Brigade (AIB) teams operated promptly and in coordination on site , using three light helicopters, a “Super Puma” helicopter and three Canadair aircraft, managing to contain the fire within three hours.
The intervention saw the collaboration of the Forestry Corps, the firefighters, the Forestas Agency, the Barraccelli, the Civil Protection volunteers and the citizens .
The fire is one of 13 reported yesterday in Sardinia, affecting a total of 122.35 hectares, including both wooded and unwooded areas . Seulo, in the midst of the "Andalas" celebrations, was able to breathe a sigh of relief, while inspections continue to accurately assess the damage. Meanwhile, since this morning, the Cfva, through the Soup - Extinguishing Line and the Nuoro COP, has been coordinating the cleanup operations. In addition to the Aritzo forestry patrol, Forestas teams from the Seulo, Sadali, and Belvì construction sites, a team from the Barracelli di Gadoni, and two volunteer teams from Meana are working on site.
