Fire in Guspini: Canadair catches helicopter, narrowly averting tragedy in flight

The fire in Guspini nearly turned tragic. Not because of the fire itself, but because of a near-miss during the extinguishing operations underway this morning .
Three helicopters and a Canadair, the latter from the Olbia base, were deployed to put out the flames. During the firefighting operations coordinated by the Forestry Corps, two aircraft came into contact, specifically one of the helicopters, a Superpuma, and the Canadair "Can 27."
The contact caused the 30-meter cable supporting the SuperPuma's so-called "bamby bucket" to break , the bag used to collect water that is then used to put out fires.
Following the collision, the Forestry Corps reported, both the Canadair and the SuperPuma had to make an emergency landing for checks, "which occurred completely safely for both aircraft. The two crews were unharmed."
A witness also witnessed the scene: "I was near the provincial road that leads from Guspini to Sant'Antonio," Raimondo Piras explains, "when I witnessed the scene, I was right in front. The Canadair passed under the Superpuma. hooking the cable which then came off . Tragedy was a near miss. I immediately called 1515 to report the accident. The Canadair then emptied the tank containing water and foam.
