Fire in Aglientu, flames possibly started by a lamppost
New water drops from the sky to extinguish the remaining fires in Monti Russu. The Tempio Pausania Prosecutor's Office is investigating.On Wednesday afternoon, operations continued to extinguish the fire that broke out in the Monti Russu Site of Community Interest in Aglientu.
Staff from the Luogosanto and Palau Forestry Corps stations and the Tempio Inspectorate have been working non-stop since Monday to contain and neutralize the fire. Near Monti Russu, there is the Gallura Beach tourist village, farms, stables, and houses, all in a restricted area around the pine forest.
Hundreds of firefighting aid have been carried out in the fire zone . There is now considerable concern about the mistral wind, expected shortly along the Aglientu coast. Firefighters, Forestas teams, Aglientu local police, Carabinieri, State Police, and volunteers from local civil protection associations are working in the area.
The investigation, coordinated by the Tempio Prosecutor's Office, is ongoing. Evidence has been seized and technical tests conducted on the Enel power pole, which may have started the fire. Sparks are believed to have fallen from the pole, located a few dozen meters from Provincial Road 90, on the opposite side of the road from the entrance to Monti Russu beach. These sparks landed on the ground, sparking the blaze.
