A tourist from Lecco, Loredana Pini, died of legionella in Olbia .

The 74-year-old had been in Sardinia on vacation since July with her husband and one of the grandchildren . On the island, however, as the Corriere della Sera and La Provincia di Lecco reconstruct, she felt ill with fever, cough and breathing difficulties : negative for Covid, for 18 days she was very ill first in hospital then in intensive care, until her death.

The pensioner, a volunteer in various local realities, was well known in her hometown.

It is not known where the legionella bacterium contracted, which is able to survive in water and mud but which is also transmitted by air. Perhaps she was already incubating the infection before arriving in Sardinia, or she could have come into contact with the disease during the voyage by ship .

"The staff of the reanimation department of the Olbia hospital showed great competence and humanity, they did their utmost and the impossible. We also have to thank the Sardinian friends who helped us", says the son.
