"The protection of human life cannot wait any longer." In Sassari, the Rizzeddu-Monserrato neighborhood committee took decisive action four days after the death of Massimo Oggiano, who was struck by a motorcyclist while crossing Via Rockefeller on his way home.

Responding to residents' protests, the association's representatives noted in a statement that the signage and safety measures are "insufficient and inadequate." They raised the alarm not only on the road where the tragic accident occurred, but also on neighboring roads in Verona, Budapest, and Milan. "It is no longer tolerable to continue to maintain the same traffic regulations in the face of a constant series of daily accidents."

Often caused by high-speed drivers who sometimes take advantage of long straight roads to put their foot down. For these reasons, the committee is asking the city administration for a series of measures. These include the installation of speed cameras, illuminated speed signs, and illuminated and protected pedestrian crossings.

Finally, the call is for local police to monitor the area and install speed bumps. "The safety of residents and all citizens who use these roads must be prioritized with concrete and timely action," the statement concludes.
