Disguised as men of the Carabinieri, they wanted to kidnap a wealthy man from Cagliari and rob him : they were ready to act this morning, but the Carabinieri thwarted their criminal plan with a blitz in the gang's logistics base, arresting them .

THE INVESTIGATIONS

The operation, coordinated by the military of the Investigative Unit of Cagliari supported by colleagues from the Companies of Cagliari, Dolianova, Iglesias and Carbonia, led to the arrest of two men, one 28 and the other 36 years old.

The investigations began a few weeks ago and have suddenly accelerated in the last 72 hours, when the Carabinieri realized that the gang was ready to act. Suspicious behavior of the suspects, stakeouts and information obtained by the military have allowed the investigators to narrow the circle and focus on an isolated farmhouse in the Fraighedda area, in the Decimoputzu area, a possible base for the criminals .

THE BLITZ

After a brief stakeout, the blitz in the building was launched during the night, attributable to a man already known to the police. And it confirmed the suspicions, so much so that the two individuals who were inside were immediately arrested. The seized material: a semi-automatic Luger pistol with six 9x19mm caliber rounds, two portable radios, handcuffs, rolls of adhesive tape, plastic cable ties, a bricklayer's mallet, two stolen cars with recycled license plates, uniforms, windbreakers, belts and winter sweaters exclusively issued to the Carabinieri .

THE CRIMINAL PLAN

The two suspects, in short, wanted to pretend to be members of the police force to carry out the robbery. And they were also ready to resort to violence and, if necessary, to kill , as demonstrated by the availability of a firearm. A robbery with kidnapping that, according to investigators, had been prepared down to the smallest details and was scheduled for this morning, but was foiled by the blitz of the men of the Carabinieri.

They had everything set up and done a dress rehearsal. By presenting false identity documents and simulating conversations with the police station , they were supposed to enter the victim's house and then immobilize her with cable ties and handcuffs .

ARRESTS AND INVESTIGATIONS

The two men were arrested and taken to Uta prison . The investigations, coordinated by the Cagliari Prosecutor's Office, continue to trace the network of contacts and identify any accomplices, at least two are being sought.
