The city of Cagliari is a candidate for the European Green Capital 2024.

"Starting from the programmatic lines of mandate - declares the mayor Paolo Truzzu - the will of the administration is to focus strongly on green issues as an instrument for the growth of our city. Our conviction has been further strengthened by the Covid-19 pandemic and by the funds made available by Europe for the implementation of sustainable and green mobility, the reduction and optimization of energy consumption and the correct management of waste ".

"Also thanks to European funds - continues Truzzu - in recent months the future of our city is being designed. In this sense, the candidacy for European Green Capital 2024, a European award that unfortunately has never been awarded to an Italian city, will be presented as a goad and stimulus to try to improve the long-standing criticality of Cagliari ".

In preparation for the candidacy, the Parks, Green and Wildlife Management service will organize a series of thematic meetings on the environment in the city.

The first appointment, reserved for representatives of professional orders (agronomists, engineers, architects, biologists, geologists, chemists, surveyors, agricultural experts, agro-technicians, industrial building experts), will be held electronically on Thursday 24 March and will focus on the theme "The trees citizens: protection and development ".

"The candidacy for the European Green Capital 2024 - comments the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Green Giorgio Angius - is a challenge to face openly the problem of the renewal of our city, which has been neglected for too long. The series of thematic meetings that will take place in the the next few weeks aims to address and discuss these issues with industry experts, to seek solutions that can have positive repercussions for our city in the years to come ".
