A major operation by the Carabinieri (Italian Carabinieri) to combat environmental crimes and the exploitation of agricultural workers in the Sulcis countryside.

The military personnel from the Giba, Nuxis, Santadi and Teulada stations are in action, supported by the specialized departments of the Ecological Operations Unit and the Labour Inspectorate Unit of Cagliari and by the 11th Helicopter Unit of Elmas.
The focus of the checks was on the land of a farming company located in a rural area of Masainas, effectively managed by a 53-year-old farmer.
The investigations conducted by the military revealed a situation of serious illegality and profound degradation . The man was initially caught using an illegal connection to the electricity grid . However, during the inspection, the Carabinieri also found a walking tractor that had been stolen from another farmer in the area.

Not only that, the military discovered that the entire area had been transformed into a vast unauthorized landfill, characterized by the presence of countless special and hazardous waste, including around sixty car wrecks.

The entrepreneur was therefore charged with very serious violations, including the opening of unauthorized sewer drains, the illegal management of waste, the construction of an illegal landfill, the illegal burning of waste, and the illegal operation of car dismantling activities.
Regarding worker protection, the intervention of the Labor Inspectorate revealed the presence of two workers employed entirely illegally, working inside the greenhouses on the property. For this irregularity, a massive administrative fine of over eight thousand euros was imposed. The installation of a video surveillance system without the required legal authorizations was also contested.
At the end of the complex operations, the entire agricultural area was placed under preventive seizure, as were the illegal materials found.
