Tempio Tribunal Judge Maria Gavina Monni sentenced Marco Michi (80, a former member of the League party) from Sassari to a fine of €4,000. The pensioner was found guilty of defamation against parliamentarian Dario Giagoni.
At the center of the trial are several posts (published on a Facebook page) attributed to Michi. The events date back to the summer of 2020, when the alleged victim was a regional councilor. Giagoni (assisted by lawyer Salvatore Deiana) is a civil plaintiff. In the post identified by the prosecutor, Giagoni is described as "brainless" and labeled with other epithets deemed defamatory by the Prosecutor's Office.
Michi's comments, defended by lawyer Vittorio Delogu, were published after an intervention by Giagoni and a clash with 5 Star Movement representative Desirè Manca.
