On February 18, 2023, in Silì (a hamlet of Oristano), Monica Vinci killed her thirteen-year-old daughter Chiara Carta with dozens of stab wounds and then attempted suicide.

Today the Cagliari Assize Court acquitted her because it deemed her not punishable due to mental infirmity, but indicated that the woman should be hospitalized for twenty years in a REMS.
