The Santo Stefano Summer Festival makes its debut this year in Quartu , promoted by the Santo Stefano Parish Committee, established about two years ago with the aim of preserving and enhancing devotion to the community's patron saint and promoting initiatives aimed at strengthening the sense of belonging to the area.
The dates of the celebration, between late August and early September, are no coincidence: Saint Stephen the Protomartyr is celebrated on December 26th, but as parish priest Don Giulio Madeddu explained, "We are in the midst of the Christmas holidays, a period that makes it virtually impossible to organize a popular celebration capable of involving the entire community. Religious celebrations continue, of course, on the patron saint's day, but it was deemed appropriate to combine them with a summer event of cultural, recreational, and charitable character, to offer everyone the opportunity to experience a true community celebration."
It begins on Saturday, August 29th, at 8:00 PM in the parish park on Viale della Musica, with a benefit dinner organized in collaboration with Admis Onlus, with proceeds going to the missionary work of Don Carlo Rotondo. Reservations have been open for a few days now. On Sunday, the 30th, at 8:00 PM, the parish courtyard on Via Boito will host a concert by the Tonio Pani Trio, offering a journey through the most authentic music of Sardinia. And on September 5th, after a year-long hiatus, one of the most anticipated events returns: "Cumbidus, Kumbidus – Cuisine and Dances of the World," organized by the Sette Note e Più association, dedicated to the encounter between peoples and cultures through food, music, and dance. From Via Porcu, the event moves to Viale Colombo at 7:00 PM, coinciding with the feast of Santo Stefano. The finale will take place on Sunday, September 6th, at 8:00 PM in the Parish Park, with "Così vestivano a Quartu," by the Su Idanu association, a parade of traditional costumes that will reveal aspects of Quartu's history and identity.
"With this first edition," adds Don Giulio, "the Santo Stefano Parish Committee wishes to launch a tradition that, over the years, can grow and become a point of reference for the neighborhood and the entire city: a celebration that unites faith, culture, solidarity, and conviviality, raising awareness of the patron saint and strengthening bonds between people."
