Alarm bells ring again over the blockage of plastic collection in Sardinia. In recent days, collection had been halted in some areas in the south of the island due to problems encountered in the national supply chain. The warning signs of a new paralysis are now ringing in the Sassari area.

Following the Union of Municipalities of Anglona, in recent days , the Association of Municipalities of Viddalba, Sedini and Valledoria has also been forced to suspend the collection of multi-material waste - plastic and metal packaging - due to the temporary closure of the "Objective Zero" treatment and storage plant in Tergu, which has reached high saturation levels with packaging still sitting on the factory grounds.

The announcement was made by the contractor, the Ciclat Trasporti Ambiente cooperative, responsible for urban waste collection. The decision to suspend the plastic collection scheduled for Tuesday, December 2nd, was made following issues affecting the entire Sardinian recycling network. These issues are arising nationwide and are impacting the recycling supply chain throughout Italy, so much so that the Corepla Consortium has imposed a halt to collections.

Residents are asked to respect the ordinance prohibiting the display of plastic containers and to avoid disposing of waste at the municipal recycling center in Spina Santa.
