On November 25th at 5:30 pm, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, in Castelsardo the transfeminist collectives Non una di meno Nord Sardegna, Strasura and Belle di faccia together with the Sardinian Homosexual Movement, the Sardinian NoFrontiere Circle, Women Volunteers Castelsardo and ACOS are organizing a demonstration entitled “For Cinzia and for everyone”.
The entire community of Castelsardo has been deeply shaken by yet another femicide, that of 33-year-old Cinzia Pinna, committed by self-confessed Emanuele Ragnedda last September. The meeting point is Lu Grannadu Park at 5:30 pm, to continue the procession along Via Nazionale, Via Cristoforo Colombo, and on to the 20th Anniversary.
The murder of Cinzia Pinna is a tragic event that, for the organizers and the community, deserves to be remembered, spoken of, and proclaimed. "This incident has deeply affected everyone, seeing the toxic narrative that the press and the community have created around the issue, which is crucial to changing," the initiative's promoters maintain. "It shouldn't be seen as an isolated case stemming from drug or alcohol use, but as one of many examples of male violence against women, caused by a patriarchal culture that arrogates to men the right to decide over women's lives."
Systemic, widespread, and pervasive violence, rooted in a patriarchal society that legitimizes, normalizes, and covers up gender-based violence. "This is why we can no longer tolerate silence. Ritual condemnations aren't enough," they add, "but we need radical political, social, and cultural action: emotional and consent education, real protection for those who report, funding for anti-violence centers, mandatory training against sexism and homo-lesbian-bi-transphobia in schools, workplaces, and institutions."
This year alone, 82 femicides, lesbian murders, and trans*cides have been recorded in Italy, according to the National Observatory of Non una di meno. The forms of violence are many and are part of a pyramid system where rapes, femicides, and physical assaults are just the apex of a system supported by silent and subtle acts of violence. A system that begins with language, wage inequality, and prejudice. "Therefore, faced with all the terrible news of violence against women and those who do not conform to the standards of patriarchal society that continue to affect us every day," the associations explain, "we invite everyone to take to the streets, join the demonstration, and shout out our anger with us, for Cinzia, for everyone."
