A false bomb threat was triggered at the Basilica of San Simplicio in Olbia in the early afternoon . State Police patrols arrived immediately to cordon off the area, preventing access, and bomb squads conducted searches inside the church. However, an inspection by the team ruled out the presence of explosive devices among the pews of the place of worship.

The parish priest of the basilica, Don Antonio Tamponi, then explained what happened: "After the 2013 flood, a water bomb detection system was installed in the church, but the software malfunctioned, sending the system into alarm."

Inside the basilica, museum staff from the Diocese were present and alerted the police.
