The thirty-four-year-old who yesterday morning at 7, while driving a Fiat Panda along the provincial road connecting Olmedo to Alghero, collided head-on with the car driven by Carabiniere Pietro Mastino, who died in the accident, tested positive to the breathalyzer test and toxicology tests.

The driver, also seriously injured and still hospitalized in Sassari hospital, is under arrest on charges of road homicide . Deputy prosecutor Angelo Beccu has requested the arrest to be validated and the hearing will be scheduled in the next few hours.

According to the findings of the traffic police, who carried out the accident investigation, the Panda invaded the opposite lane and crashed into the Seat Ibiza driven by the 55-year-old carabiniere, originally from Montresta but resident in Olmedo, who was going to Alghero to start work.

The thirty-four-year-old, also a resident of Olmedo, was instead returning home after a night spent with friends. The impact was fatal: Pietro Mastino, extracted from the tangle of wreckage of his car by firefighters, died in the ambulance that was taking him to the emergency room of the Santissima Annunziata in Sassari.
