The morning after the fire that destroyed three parked cars and damaged two others on Via Nigra in Quartu , fear and the acrid smell of smoke remain. In the house where the cars were parked, signs of the fire still remain: the blackened door, the destroyed air conditioning motor, the blackened shutters, even on the first floor. In the half-charred house, people are gathering what remains.
At the entrance gate, the owner, with soot marks on her body, spoke only on condition of anonymity: "We didn't notice anything at first. We were inside, then we heard this explosion and went outside. The flames were very high right in front of the house. They reached the first floor; you can see the blackened shutters."
Inside, "a room burned down, and so did the curtains. It's a mess; we're still cleaning up. The firefighters came and had us take shelter in the courtyard, and then they put everything out. Who knows what happened ? Who knows if someone started the fire."
Not far away, in another house, one of the residents has a car damaged by the fire: "Luckily, it's not one of those charred ones," he says, "but my car was damaged too. There are clear signs of the fire on the bodywork, which is as if it's melted. We were inside too and heard this explosion. We went outside and found ourselves faced with a disaster."
The fire department's investigation will now determine whether it was arson . Before Via Nigra, other vehicles had been set on fire in recent months on city streets, such as Via Palestrina. And then there were the cars set alight on Sant'Andrea, on three different streets, one after the other.
