And we're at 54 deaths (3 in 2025). This is the number of road fatalities in Cagliari over the past eight years, following the death of Kiril Kachalaba , the 18-year-old killed Tuesday evening by a car on Via Is Maglias while riding a scooter. Distraction, inexperience, speed, drugs, and alcohol are the main causes of fatal accidents. But what are the most dangerous roads in the capital, and what solutions can be found to avoid further roadkill?

The study

A survey conducted by the University's Engineering Department, in collaboration with the municipality and local police, has identified the most dangerous roads and the main causes of collisions.

These are the arteries leading into, out of, and through the urban area. "The Asse Mediano and Viale Marconi together account for about 10% of all accidents, the corridor comprising Viale Trieste, Viale Sant'Avendrace, and Viale Monastir accounts for about 5%, Via Roma (before the transformation), Viale Diaz for 4.3%, and Viale Poetto, Viale Lungo Mare Poetto, and Via Lungo Saline for about 3.6%," explains Mauro Coni, professor of "Roads, Railways, and Airports" at the University of Cagliari, who led the study.
