It all started from an argument with the landlord over unpaid rent, then the argument degenerated into murder. It happened a year ago in via Ogliastra, in the Is Mirrionis district of Cagliari.

But Fabrizio Congiu, the 53-year-old accused of killing Venerato Sardu a year ago , is now free albeit with the obligation to live in Sestu, to sign and the ban on leaving the country. The release last Saturday due to the expiry of the terms of precautionary custody, at least until the outcome of the future trial. The tenant, disabled and unemployed, had gone to Sardu to clarify the issue of arrears. But the knot was never untied and the meeting ended with the death of the 75-year-old.

The response of Sardu's daughter, Isabel, was harsh and painful. She shared what happened on her Facebook profile, asking for help: « A murderer has been released . A violence beyond violence for what hit us and left us dying on the street. Because of what happened today, however, if the facts are to be known they must be the correct ones. Enough. Because even though we are private people and would have needed protection, we remained alone."

«In February last year – continues Sardu – my father was brutally murdered. The murderer , known in the newspapers as the beggar of via Manno and via Garibaldi in Cagliari, is called Fabrizio Congiu and at the time he had residence with a regular contract in one of my father's apartments. The man had not paid rent since before the pandemic, which is why an eviction had been requested , which for various reasons the court postponed until after the pandemic, leaving this person very much rented at my father's house . But he had been recalled several times by the police for being aggressive. The complaints presented and the reports for this person by my father were not enough to protect himself from the worst. They were not enough, because some specific "body" forgot to transcribe the complaint presented which never saw the light of day . They were not enough because the complaint and the complaint were presented a second time, nothing ever reached the right desk because it got lost."

«From 2020 to February 2023, – explains the daughter in the post – the first days of the month the eviction was enforceable, therefore without any ifs or buts she had to leave the house. But they gave him another 10 days. Which were fatal for my father. From the statements of more than one person in the area it emerged that Congiu , in order to "stay good", often asked to borrow money from anyone, even from my father, who had sometimes granted it to him for the sake of a quiet life and his security . Apparently, on the day of his death my father had denied him those 20 euros. They were in dispute and he was waiting to throw him out, he couldn't take it anymore. And out of fear he had also set up a camera system outside and inside his apartment."

The description of what happened that day follows, with the attack recorded by the security systems. And then the bitterness takes over: «Sometimes I grit my teeth so much that I think I'll break them sooner or later. And my cheeks are so bitten at the sides that I'm afraid my mouth will turn out. And then Congiu was freed. Be careful . Our justice could come in knowing that he will not harm other people", concludes the woman who attaches a photo of the man to the post. « If you see it around in Cagliari or elsewhere – he warns – please report it and stay away from us. Be careful ".
