A 56-year-old from Cagliari killed himself, with the belt of the shutter, in the place where he should have been treated, that is the psychiatry ward of the Santissima Trinità hospital in Cagliari a few hours after hospitalization, Saturday afternoon.

There is no doubt about the voluntary gesture, committed on the night between Saturday and Sunday . Yesterday morning the man was found in his room by a nurse shortly after breakfast time. The medical examiner and the agents of the Flying Squad are also on site in contact with the prosecutor Marco Cocco.

Now the victim's wife and four children are demanding clarity. Too many things in the hospital room, like that belt, that didn't guarantee the safety of a person who had already attempted suicide. The relatives' lawyer, Ivan Sanna, will request the seizure of the medical record , that of any images taken by the video surveillance systems and that the hospital staff on shift between Saturday and yesterday be heard .

“I was warned of what happened, but I still don't have the elements to make a precise assessment. As happens in these cases - explains Sergio Marracini , medical director of the single hospital unit on which the Holy Trinity also depends - I am waiting for the report that will be made by the medical staff. The pain of the patient's death remains: we are close to the family ”.
