For now , there is no definitive plan . But to save Poetto, after Cyclone Harry nearly obliterated the beach, the Municipality is studying a "soft" solution to return to the people of Cagliari part of the beach that the storm surge consumed: a sand transfer, to be carried out gradually, from the quarry along state road 125, which is located on the road to Burcei (already identified in the very first anti-erosion project) to Centomila beach.
" Beware of talking about beach nourishment ," Mayor Massimo Zedda is keen to point out. "It's not beach nourishment, but rather the transfer of sand that we could take from that quarry, where the same type of sand is found as at Poetto, thus adding ten to fifteen meters. We'll discuss this in detail when the plan is finalized ," also in consultation with the regional Department of the Environment, "in the most affected areas where the storm has destroyed the beach ," he adds.
How much sand will be needed, where the work will be done the most, and how long it will take are not yet clear.
