Cagliari stopped to remember . At the Pierluigi da Palestrina Conservatory Auditorium , authorities, students and citizens are celebrating the Day of Remembrance : an intense morning, made of reflections, music and testimonies.
The event was kicked off by the Conservatory orchestra, which created a solemn and participatory atmosphere by playing Mameli's anthem . The President of the Region, Alessandra Todde , and the Mayor of Cagliari, Massimo Zedda , addressed words of encouragement to the students of the Cagliari schools present, urging them to cultivate memory as an antidote to hatred.
Even the Questora, Rosanna Lavezzaro, wanted to leave a message to the kids, telling the story of Giovanni Palatucci, Questore of Fiume, who died in 1945 for saving hundreds of Jews. This was followed by the intervention of the provincial school director Peppino Loddo, who retraced the evolution of anti-Semitism.
The most touching moment was the delivery of the Medal of Honor, granted by the President of the Republic, delivered by the prefect Giuseppe Castaldo to the family of Salvatore Muscas. Deported to concentration camps in Germany and Lithuania, Muscas survived, bringing with him the testimony of a barbarity that must not be repeated. Muscas' children collected the honor.
Also speaking were the student Aurora Virzi, president of the Provincial Student Council of Cagliari, and the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Diocese of Cagliari, Giuseppe Baturi.
A morning that spoke of memory, of the horror of war, but also of the future: an invitation not to forget, so that tragedies like the Holocaust never find space again in the history of humanity.
