This, according to the meeting of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety, resulted in the red zone being established around Piazza del Carmine, in the center of Cagliari. And based on these assessments , it was decided to extend the measure—expiring today—for another four months .

Sitting at the table in Piazza Palazzo were the deputy prefect, Maria Antonietta Gregorio, the mayor Massimo Zedda, the police commissioner Rosanna Lavezzaro, the provincial commander of the Carabinieri Luigi Grasso, the provincial commander of the Guardia di Finanza Gaetano Cutarelli and the Public Prosecutor Rodolfo Maria Sabelli.

During the meeting, the results of the enhanced controls in an area of the city that had been deemed highly unsafe were reviewed. The red zone was promoted and extended.

According to the Prefecture, the good results "also benefited from the enhanced surveillance measures already adopted in the most sensitive areas of the capital, which have allowed for increased territorial control and gradually restored those areas to full and normal use by citizens and businesses."

The decision to extend the deadline "also takes into account the approaching Christmas and New Year holidays, a period during which a significant increase in attendance in the capital is expected, and consequently, greater traffic in the main areas of the city."
