A huge quantity of footwear intended for sale was seized by the Carabinieri of the NAS of Cagliari as part of an operation aimed at protecting consumer safety.
Over 58,000 pairs of rubbery plastic shoes from China and Portugal were found to be non-compliant with current regulations and were removed from the shelves of a wholesale and retail store in Sant'Avendrace.
The shoes, marketed under brands such as GymmY, Rain Bow Shoes, S7Stars, Sweet Walk, Sesamall, Jomix Shoes and others, presented serious irregularities: the absence of clear labels, the failure to indicate the materials used and any potentially harmful chemical substances, as well as the total absence of information on the manufacturer or importer within the European Union. Particularly worrying was the lack of instructions and warnings for models intended for children, which contained potentially dangerous removable parts. The total value of the seized goods was estimated at around 400,000 euros.
Investigations are currently underway to identify the entire distribution network and laboratory analyses are being carried out on the samples taken, in order to verify the presence of toxic or harmful substances for health.
