Cagliari is also locking down in anticipation of the wave of bad weather that will hit southern and eastern Sardinia in the next few hours.

Tomorrow, Monday 19 January, and Tuesday 20, kindergartens, schools, universities, public offices, cemeteries, sports facilities, civic markets, public parks, libraries and art centres will be closed .

Mayor Massimo Zedda urges citizens to exercise maximum caution and minimize travel: due to the storm surges and strong winds, it is also advisable to "avoid coastal areas" .

The Cagliari Maritime Directorate also urges passengers to "absolutely avoid navigation or any type of nautical activity. Do not stop or walk along the coastline, piers, breakwaters, or exposed port areas. Check the mooring of your vessels in port."
