Yari Fa, the 20-year-old accused of fatally stabbing former Carabiniere Fabio Piga in the chest, killed last June inside the Donegal pub on Via Caprera in Cagliari, has been sentenced to 10 years and 8 months in prison.
The former soldier was apparently there as a security guard: he had intervened in the bathroom of the club because he believed drugs were being used, but he had been stabbed with a steak knife during an argument with the young man.
After a deliberation lasting about half an hour, this morning Judge Luca Melis accepted the request for conviction by Public Prosecutor Marco Cocco.
The extent of the sentence was determined by the fact that the trial was held using the abbreviated procedure and by the findings of an expert report which confirmed Fa's semi-insane nature.
