Prosecutor Marco Cocco has requested 10 years and eight months in prison for Yari Fa, the 20-year-old accused of stabbing former Carabiniere Fabio Piga in the chest, killed last June inside the Donegal pub on Via Caprera in Cagliari.
The former soldier was apparently there as a security guard: he had intervened in the bathroom of the club because he believed drugs were being used, but he had been struck with a steak knife during an argument with the young man now on trial.
Following the request for an immediate trial by the investigating prosecutor, Judge Luca Melis granted the request for a summary trial, requested by defense attorneys Pier Andrea Setzu and Sara Battolu.
An expert assessment ordered on the alleged murderer had established that the young man was not fully capable of understanding and willing, but he was also found to be a danger to society.
If convicted, the sentence will have to take into account the findings of the expert report: hence the request made today at the hearing.
