Debris is raining down from the Asse Mediano in Cagliari: pieces of a car that spun out of control this morning, hitting the guardrail, fell onto the asphalt and sidewalk on Via Lubich, a more recently built street in the Genneruxi area. Fortunately, no one was passing by, and no injuries were reported. No damage was reported to parked vehicles either (some were left on the sidewalk, not exactly in compliance with the code).

It's not the first time it's happened, but this one could have ended badly: the car that then got stuck in the middle of the Asse carriageway, causing the daily nightmare of traffic jams , also seriously damaged the metal side wall, bending it, but continued on without falling. The barrier held.

The Genneruxi-Via Mercalli neighborhood committee is calling for safety: "One of the issues we discussed during the recent meeting with the administration was the installation of soundproofing barriers to reduce the spread of noise and dust from the nearby Asse Mediano," they explained in a statement.

One of the side effects "that we've always feared is falling debris, especially in the event of accidents. In the past, small car parts, bolts, or pebbles have been found flying from the road toward nearby Via Chiara Lubich, or a streetlight on a business on Viale Marconi."

Today, pieces of bumpers fell: "Fortunately, there were no injuries to people or property, but this is a point of concern for everyone," the committee clarifies, "even in other areas of the city, given that the median axis runs very close to roads and businesses. We wish a speedy recovery to those involved in the accidents and look forward to continuing to work with the administration to finalize the installation of sound-absorbing barriers, which would obviously limit or prevent the "rain of debris" on the road below."
