U a swimming pool for rehabilitation (and recreational) activities, new interventions on the tennis courts and the completion of the redevelopment program of the Monte Urpinu sports facility This is the content of the executive project approved by the Cagliari city council, as part of the intervention plan financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).

The total funding is €5.8 million, of which €4.8 million comes from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) and €1 million from the municipal budget. The project involves the redevelopment and completion of the Cagliari Tennis Club, located within the Monte Urpinu park.

The project's highlight is the 9-meter by 21-meter pool, with a constant depth of 1.40 meters. It will be used for both rehabilitation and recreational activities, with a particular focus on programs for children and functional recovery . The facility will be located behind the clubhouse, near tennis courts 3 and 4. Access will be possible from both inside the clubhouse and from outside, via ramps and stairs.

One of the project's key aspects is accessibility. The area will be organized on a single level to reduce architectural barriers and facilitate access for people with mobility disabilities. The pool will be suitable for low-impact water activities and group classes, with a functional and temporal distinction between therapeutic and recreational uses.

The project received a favorable opinion from the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts, and Landscape , subject to compliance with certain conditions. The guidelines concern, among other aspects, the protection of existing greenery, the integration of the new structure into the landscape, and the arrangement of the outdoor surfaces. The pool cover must be made of a white or sand-colored tarp, fully retractable and removable, to be used only on inclement days. The surrounding area and relaxation areas are expected to be mostly lawned. Any plant species interfering with the work must be replanted where possible or offset and replaced with specimens of similar characteristics and size, to be planted within the sports facility itself.

The swimming pool is part of a broader redevelopment program for the Tennis Club . The overall project includes the resurfacing of the playing surfaces on courts 8, 9, and 10, in addition to previously scheduled work on the underground parking lot, courts 2 and 5, and the telescopic roofing of court 5. Work planned in previous phases also includes the upgrade of the center court and work on the west stands and court 1, in accordance with the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation's requirements for compliance with the standards of international sporting events.

Founded in 1954 and relocated to the Monte Urpinu Park in 1965, the Cagliari Tennis Club covers approximately 17,300 square meters. The complex features thirteen tennis courts, a gym, locker rooms, a clubhouse with public and private functions, a TV room, and other amenities.

Over the course of its history, it has hosted six Italian Davis Cup matches and the 2013 Fed Cup final, won by Italy against Russia. In 2021, it hosted an ATP 250 tournament . Since 2020, the sports offering has also expanded to include three padel courts , a sport that has helped strengthen the center's presence in the city's sports scene.
