A new kiosk-bar with a panoramic terrace overlooking the greenery will transform a currently unfrequented garden into a meeting place for students and residents. This is one of the key projects in the redevelopment project for the green space between the university campus on Viale Sant'Ignazio, Via Don Bosco, and Viale Merello , approved by the Cagliari City Council in recent days .
The project costs 2.2 million euros and aims to restore and enhance the garden, improving access and connecting it directly to the Orto dei Cappuccini .
The refreshment area will be built near the university campus entrance and will serve as a link between the Viale Sant'Ignazio and the park levels, separated by a difference in height of approximately six meters. The structure, designed as a removable structure, will house an air-conditioned space for a cafeteria and restaurants. The roof will be accessible and will become a panoramic terrace, extending directly onto the university square .
The council has asked for consideration of expanding the terrace on the park-facing side, using teak for the wooden features, and making the interior spaces more flexible, allowing the future manager to customize them. The manager has not yet been identified , and the modifications will need to be within the available budget.
Next to the kiosk, new accessible pedestrian paths are planned, along with areas equipped with tables and chairs for resting and studying, along with the renovation of ramps and stairs and the improvement of lighting.
The goal is to include the garden in a larger green system, connecting the campus to the Capuchin Garden, the Botanical Garden, the Roman Amphitheatre and the Buoncammino promenade .
The approval concerns the technical and economic feasibility study. Further bureaucratic procedures will be necessary to complete the project, including obtaining opinions and authorizations from the relevant authorities, also taking into account the area's geological hazards.
