Tzia Maria Gessa is the new centenarian grandmother of Burcei. She was celebrated today in her home, also present by the mayor-poet Simone Monni who gave her a souvenir plaque with the writing in limba “Tantis best wishes to Tzia Maria Gessa po they lompia a sa pagini number 100 de su libru de sa vida sua. Then I contacted others!”.

The granny appreciated it and then turning to the mayor: "But am I old now?". And Simone Monni: «No, Mrs. Maria, you're old at 200». She smiled in a nice family atmosphere.

Tzia Maria Gessa is the daughter of Doloretta Monni and Giovanni Gessa. She married Antonio Cinus: a beautiful marriage crowned by the birth of eight children, four boys and four girls. Now only Livia remains. "A long life also marked by moments of pain," said the grandmother. «I thank the Lord for giving me the gift of one hundred years».

«Until I was 88 – she said – I was behind a sewing machine, my job, my passion. And up to the age of 88 I was also a sewing teacher, with many of my students who, over time, learned the art of scissors and needles. A life made of work, poverty, sacrifices and a lot of love for the family." It can be said that Tzia Maria's workshop and her students produced clothes for half the country.

These are memories that granny keeps in her heart. She spends her days in bed, but still has an iron memory, surrounded by the affection of her nieces. A centenarian, Anna Maria Pes, also lives in Burcei, 102 years old in May.
