The first Burcei cherry festival dates back to 1954. The first variety to ripen is the "Regina" cherry . This is followed by the maturation of the "Nera" and "Duroni" , two varieties also used for jams. The cultivated area covers about 75 hectares with 21,000 plants .

They are found above all in the localities of Mitzauena, Cea, Ghirranu and in other sites that develop a few kilometers from the town. It can be said that almost all the inhabitants have at least one cherry tree. But there are also those who grow several hundred of them. It is not for nothing that Burcei is known as the "country of cherries" . In short, almost everyone has their own little cherry orchard. Red, juicy, sweet, beautiful to look at: a flagship for the country. There are also those who obtain syrups, herbal teas, infusions, grappas, jams and ice creams from the harvest. Cherries are also used in the kitchen to flavor rabbit cacciatore and to create 'Appiconis', a cluster weave.
