The bovine dermatitis emergency is over, and now we can finally get going again. Thursday's green light from the Ministry of Health puts an end to the contagion nightmare, which for much of 2025 caused enormous difficulties for farmers. Now we can look to the new year with optimism and resume operations.
The restrictions were lifted after a long wait, with the countdown starting on November 21st when the European Union said that Sardinian cattle could once again leave the island.
Ministerial approval was also needed, which was provided the day before yesterday by the director general of the Animal Health Department , Giovanni Filippini, who made an entire sector celebrate.
Movement of vaccinated or still immune cattle to the rest of Italy, excluding areas still under restrictions, is possible with a favorable clinical examination, treatment against vectors, and a negative PCR test.
However, where there were recent outbreaks (the two remaining ones ended between Christmas and New Year's), we will have to wait until the 45th day after the last case has been extinguished.
