The spread of lumpy skin disease (Lumpy Skin Disease) in cattle appears to be slowing down in Sardinia.
The last three outbreaks remain limited to the areas where sick animals were already present in Sarule and Orotelli, while the number of vaccinated animals is steadily increasing due to the massive prophylaxis campaign implemented by the Region following the arrival of 300,000 doses.
To date, there are 46 outbreaks on the island, 292 cattle are sick, 72 are dead and 517 have been culled.
"To date , 22,000 animals have been vaccinated, and all outbreaks have been addressed," explained Regional President Alessandra Todde on the sidelines of a press conference on health. From now on, the regional government will have to evaluate a streamlined law, consisting of just two articles, to immediately deploy nearly €12 million in resources for farmers affected by the virus , based on ISMEA tables and anticipating the funds that will be made available by the government for this bovine disease.
The bill, if approved by the majority, could be brought before the Regional Council immediately , with the request for the urgent procedure provided for in Article 102 of the Rules of Procedure.
