Boss escapes from Badu 'e Carros, 14 arrests: a prison guard also arrested
Breakthrough in the Cagliari DDA investigation: cover-ups for the mafioso in Orune and Corsica. The agent had provided him with an encrypted cell phone and other devicesThere is also a prison police officer from Siniscola among those arrested as part of the maxi operation by the Cagliari District Anti-Mafia Directorate which hit the network of supporters of the Gargano mafia boss, Marco Raduano, who escaped from the Badu 'e Carros prison in February 2023 and was caught in Corsica after a year on the run .
During the night, 14 precautionary measures were carried out in prison against suspects residing in the provinces of Nuoro, Sassari and Venice, but also in Bastia. The charges, to varying degrees, are aiding and abetting, procuring non-compliance with a sentence, drug trafficking, illegal possession and carrying of weapons, receiving stolen goods and, for the agent, also corruption. Those arrested are Sardinians, Venetians and others residing in Corsica.
Based on the investigations carried out by the SCO, the Sisco of Cagliari and Venice and the Mobile squads of Nuoro and Venice, with the collaboration of the Nic of the penitentiary police, it was reconstructed that Raduano had organized the escape - he had lowered himself from the walls with knotted sheets - with the support of a Venetian. The preparations for the escape were facilitated by the availability of encrypted cell phones and other devices that, according to the investigators, had been brought inside the prison by the corrupt penitentiary police officer .
After leaving Badu 'e Carros, Raduano could have counted on a period of cover in the Nuoro area. First in the Barbagia capital, then in Bitti and, subsequently, he spent four months in an impervious mountain location, under a tent. In June 2023 he then moved to Corsica (where some arrests were made in execution of an international warrant), with a passage in Spain, where he was able to count on his partner Gianluigi Troiano. Raduano was able to count on a continuous flow of money throughout his time as a fugitive.
The Sardinian cover was allegedly provided by a Sardinian from Orune: here the investigators seized an illegally held weapon and three kilos of narcotics from one of the suspects.
The investigations are not yet concluded and further developments cannot be excluded.
