The Region says that the emergency numbers are overestimated and blames the veterinarians ( HERE THE NEWS ) . The shepherds, on the other hand, have to deal, every day, with an epidemic that seems to be spreading out of control.

Then there are the data from the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Sardinia to certify the progress of the bluetongue virus on the Island. Updated to today, November 4, it reports that the deceased heads are 48,849. As of October 28, there were just under 45 thousand: an average of deaths that stands at around 600 per day.

The total cases of contagion are 174,377 , with outbreaks that have exceeded 3,800. Serotype 8 is prevalent in the north while 3 (which has caused 18,685 deaths among sheep) , for which a vaccine is still awaited, has overwhelmed the countryside from Oristano to Cagliari like a wave.

"At the moment the only response of the Todde Council to the blue tongue emergency is the 'gaffe' of the Health Councilor, who proposed to cool the basins with liquid nitrogen", attacks the Forza Italia deputy, Ugo Cappellacci, "We note with extreme concern that from the joke about cooling the waterways we have moved on to the attempt to freeze the data with a letter that orders veterinarians not to record an excessive number of dead animals".

Instead of adopting urgent solutions, according to the former president of the Region, "are we only taking action to bend the data to the needs of political communication? All this happens in contempt of the work carried out by veterinarians in the territory and represents an insult to the concerns expressed by breeders based on a concrete perception of reality. As underlined by the trade associations, the damage had already been quantified months ago but in the meantime the epidemic is galloping while the Council remains immobile".
