Yet another nightmare weekend for the many beachgoers who set out early this morning to reach the beaches along the Quartu coast.
Long lines have formed along Via Leonardo Da Vinci, starting at Margine Rosso. The intense heat has drawn thousands of people to the beach seeking some fresh air after another scorching night. Despite the absence of construction work on the stretch between Marina Residence and Terra Mala (Terna suspends roadworks over the weekend, as agreed with the Municipality), the road cannot handle such heavy traffic, and queues are inevitable.
On the other side, on the 554 Var, several drivers reported the presence of nails on the asphalt, with numerous people suffering flat tires. The alarm was also raised on social media. It remains to be seen whether this was a case of vandalism, with the nails possibly placed intentionally to cause damage.
Parking is also problematic, with parking becoming unavailable from early in the morning at both Poetto and Mari Pintau, where people continue to park on the side of the road and on bends, posing a risk of accidents. At Poetto, the parking area in front of the Lido Mediterraneo is awaiting its opening, with space for about a hundred cars.
