"I didn't go to demand anything, but to ask whoever was there what had happened and who had killed my son."

In the Assize Court in Cagliari, Andrea Mameli this morning spoke about the private investigations he carried out to discover who killed his son Marco, 22 years old from Ilbono, killed during the carnival celebrations in Bari Sardo on 1 March 2024 .

The victim's mother burst into tears as she stood before the defendant, Giampaolo Migali , 28, from Girasole, charged with the crime. Migali had been arrested a year and a half after the crime and is being defended by lawyers Francesca Ferrai and Maria Leonida Cadoni.
In court, the 22-year-old's father recounted how, from Ilbono, he went to Bari Sardo many times to ask people who might have been at the party, but also his son's friends, what had happened that night , trying to find out who was there or who was speaking from hearsay.

A painstaking investigation, secretly recording hours and hours of conversations with those who—for months—had maintained silence and a conspiracy of silence towards law enforcement. "Everyone told me my son had nothing to do with the previous argument," she repeated. "Some then told me that Giampaolo Migali walked toward Marco, and then Marco collapsed."

All the recordings were handed over by the Mameli family to law enforcement, enabling them to complete their investigation.
Migali is accused of murder, aggravated by trivial motives, but also of wounding another young man from Ilbono, Andrea Contu, 27, who was stabbed before Marco Mameli.

The investigation was coordinated by prosecutors Paola Dal Monte and Giovanna Morra, while the civil parties were assisted by lawyer Gianluigi Mastio (who represents the victim's father Andrea Mameli, his mother Simonetta Campus, and his sister Laura Mameli) and his colleague Giampaolo Pilia, who represented Andrea Contu.
