The heavy rains that hit Cagliari also worsened the situation on the rocky ridge that overlooks the Monumental Cemetery of Bonaria.
The rock split and there were subsidences that required a technical investigation and immediate intervention. On site the Fire Department, the municipal civil protection teams and the Public Works service.
The part of the canyon that cuts the rocky ridge into two parts is closed: the lower part of the Cemetery (with entrance from Viale Cimitero) is not internally connected to the upper part (facing Via Ravenna).
"We therefore invite citizens who have relatives in the upper part of the Cemetery - commented Deputy Mayor Cristina Mancini - to access from the entrance on Via Ravenna, while we suggest the entrance from Viale Cimitero for those who have relatives in the squares of the lower part".
The internal stands will not be accessible and the internal shuttle service to the Cemetery cannot be guaranteed.
"To protect everyone's safety - Cristina Mancini continued - we ask you not to go beyond the boundaries set with barriers, tape and pickets. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to soon give new life to this important part of our historical, cultural and monumental heritage, also thanks to the restoration project of the Monumental Cemetery, recently approved by the City Council (resolution 167/2024)".
