Once again at the top of the list. Filling up with diesel fuel today, Sunday, May 24th, costs more in Sardinia than elsewhere. This is according to data published by the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy. This isn't always the case, but in recent weeks, on more than one occasion, the island has recorded higher costs than the Italian average or has at least been among the most expensive regions.
The price observatory today records an average national price in self-service mode of 2.037 euros per litre of diesel and 1.968 euros per litre of petrol .
Diesel: Looking at the data published online, Sardinia reaches €2,058 per liter , 2.1 cents above the average, and tops the list. Only Bolzano (€2,068) is higher, but this is a provincial figure. Campania brings up the rear with €2,011 per liter of diesel.
Gasoline fares better. The average price in Sardinia stands at €1,980 per liter . This puts it sixth in the ranking and below the national average.
Fuel prices generally remain hovering around or very close to the two-euro mark. This is despite the government's extension of the excise duty cut , which includes a 20-cent reduction per liter on diesel and a 5-cent reduction on gasoline until June 8th.
Looking at the highest prices at Sardinian gas stations, as reported by the MIMIT (Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy) Price Observatory, in the province of Cagliari, you can pay as much as €2.126 for a liter of self-service diesel. In Jerzu, which is part of the province of Nuoro, the price is €2.249 per liter; in Abbasanta (Oristano) €2.129; or €2.209 in Porto Torres (Sassari); and €2.179 in Muravera (Southern Sardinia).
The Italian Federation of Roadside Fuel Station Managers ( FIGISC) states that this isn't always the case: "To conduct a comprehensive analysis, it's necessary to consider prices over a longer period of time, requiring at least two months of exposure," says Salvatore Garau , president of the Cagliari office. "Sardinia isn't always the most expensive region; for gasoline, for example, this isn't the case, even though it has been among the most expensive recently. Several factors need to be considered; among other things, the excise duty cut was recently extended, and some distributors may not have adjusted their prices yet."
