Explosive situation in the Uta prison , where the count of violence and aggression against officers on duty continues. The trade unions have therefore decided to directly contact the competent authorities, in particular the Government and the Ministry of Justice, referring in particular to what happened last December 16 in the penitentiary . "To be specific - we read in the note signed by UilPa and Uspp - several cells were set on fire; at the same time, suicide attempts and self-harm of a certain gravity occurred". Also in the previous days, December 14 and 15, there were other violent episodes that led to injuries and fractures for some officers.

"It is clear - the note continues - that these are not episodes of "business as usual" , but signs of a serious problem that goes well beyond the simple prison routine . The hypothesis that there could be some sort of direction behind these acts, with the aim of creating chaos and putting security at risk, does not seem so far from reality". "In light of the delicate situation - the unions denounce - no serious remedy has been adopted, at any level". And, indeed, the situation inside the prison has even worsened, between little staff and the "progressive loosening of surveillance and the reduction in the number of Penitentiary Police units on duty in delicate and crucial places such as the passages, where lately there appears to be only one unit in possession of the keys that allow access to the various detention sections".

A situation that has «inevitably» led to «numerous absences due to illness, especially of a psychological nature due to work-related stress». Among the solutions proposed by the unions are the «rigorous application of the circulars that provide for the removal of violent individuals» and «pursuing the responsibilities of the authors of these serious episodes, also on an economic level, given that the damage to state property is considerable».
