Open city council meeting in Porto Torres following the failure to appoint a president and the cancellation of the decree appointing the extraordinary commissioner of the Asinara National Park by the Minister for the Environment, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin. The public session was called by the president of the city council, Franco Satta, in agreement with the city councilors, for Tuesday, February 18 at 6:00 p.m., with an agenda relating to the effects of the lack of stable and complete governance that prevents the Authority from real long-term planning and puts the operation of the Park at risk, with repercussions on the activities of the operators who work on the island, 75 companies and approximately 400 workers at risk, unable to plan the future tourist season.

There has been no president since 2016, no board of directors since 2020, the body essential to implement the activities planned by the Park Community, a steering body recently established by the President of the Region, Alessandra Todde. The city council is asking for an official guide for the Park Authority, a president with duties that go beyond the ordinary management of a special commissioner. While waiting for the ministerial appointment, the council also intends to address the problem of the numerous buildings, approximately 200 buildings owned by the Regional Agency for the Conservation of the Coasts, which have required safety measures for twenty years now.

The Region has recently intensified its efforts to protect and enhance the Asinara Island through a detailed plan of interventions already underway, in the advanced planning and programming phases. The goal is to improve the usability of the island while respecting its environmental and historical-cultural uniqueness. The regional councilor for Environmental Protection, Rosanna Laconi, specified: "We hope that the minister will proceed quickly to an agreement with the president of the Region for the recomposition of the statutory bodies of the Asinara National Park. Only through complete and fully operational governance will it be possible to implement effective and well-coordinated planning, ensuring the full development of the environmental, historical and tourist value of the island".
